The ELEA Experiment

Extremely Low Elevation Angle Experiment - 12:40 PM in Europe

This clip is referenced in Chapter 2 describing efforts to enhance the verticals’ low elevation emissions by harnessing the “skin effect” of salt water.

We are listening to a receiver in the United Kingdom. We hear the saltwater verticals in R.I. hailing Europe. Frank, OU2T, responds and provides a 58/9 signal report, stating his local time is 12:40 PM.

Sidenote: As OU2T transmits his information, the recording switches to the receiver in R.I. in an attempt to receive his signal. This causes the operator to miss Frank’s name. If you listen carefully, you can hear OU2T buried the local noise. He is using a horizontal yagi.
